Part of The Dead Remember story by Richard Brunelle. I loved this scene; where the main character is coming down from his cabin in the high country, searching for food, supplies, and survivors.
I've done a bit of hiking in New Hampshire and Maine, and I'm always fascinated by the scrappy trees that seem to be growing out of solid rock. This was my chance to put one in an illustration.
