I did about a thousand sketches of Yoda before this one.
It was easy to get carried away and vigorously exaggerate his features. I was determined to keep that from happening. I wanted my painting to be serene; closer to the original icon that Stuart Freeborn created. A wise, old Jedi who kept his strength bottled behind a gentle façade.
That's a heck of a lot to ask of one little sketch, but at least I got the ears right.
